About the Event

Domaine Trapet Père et Fils is a seventh generation Gevrey-Chambertin estate and one of the largest holders of Chambertin. Heralded for crafting pure, complex, and elegant wines from an appellation where power often reigns supreme. 

Louis Trapet was one of handful of Burgundy estates to seize grafting vines as a solution to phylloxera in the late 19th century. Though the practice was forbidden at the time, it saved his vineyards, which went on to be a source of vine material used to re-plant after the region was devastated. Today, Jean-Louis Trapet has shown a similar sense of prescience. He began conversion to biodynamic viticulture in the mid-nineties, and today the estate holds Demeter certification. He has also reduced the amount of new oak across the board and increasing the percentage of whole clusters in fermentation. As a result, the wines that Domaine Trapet is producing today are some of the liveliest in Gevrey.

In addition to the Burgundy estate, Jean-Louis Trapet and his wife Andrée, along with their sons Pierre and Louis, produce wines from her family’s property in Alsace. Here they grow Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris and Auxerrois -- all from biodynamically-farmed and Demeter certified vineyards.
