Experience the raw beauty and intensity of Mount Etna through the wines of two artisan producers defining Sicily’s modern renaissance: Irene Badalà and Cantine Calcagno.
From her tiny, 3-hectare biodynamic estate in the Contrada Santo Spirito above Passopisciaro, Irene Badalà crafts wines of remarkable clarity and finesse. Each vine—aged between 50 and 90 years—is hand-tended and harvested, yielding limited quantities that capture the minerality and volcanic energy of Etna’s slopes.
Joining her are the Calcagno family, whose estate lies just a few kilometers away in Passopisciaro. Managed by brothers Gianni and Franco Calcagno and Gianni’s daughter Giusy, Cantine Calcagno has become known for wines that speak vividly of Etna’s old bush-trained vines and iconic contrade, including Feudo di Mezzo and Arcurìa. Working organically and by hand, they produce refined Etna Rosso and Bianco wines that balance freshness, depth, and the unmistakable imprint of lava-rich soil.
