About the Event
RHÔNE VALLEY - North vs. South Domaine Jaboulet - Crozes-Hermitage
- IGP Syrah 2021
- Crozes-Hermitage Blanc 2021
Winery description Located 2km south of Tain l’Hermitage, Domaine Jaboulet is run by Philippe and his son, Vincent (6th generation), since 2006. A family vineyard of 75 acres including the prestigious appellations of Ermitage (both red and white), Cornas, Crozes-Hermitage, and IGP Collines Rhodaniennes. In 2016, the property acquired the HVE level 3 certification that involves the use of zero pesticides, zero chemical insecticides and zero herbicides. It also involves using biodiverse methods to grow the natural ecosystem and control de water usage. The oldest vines of Syrah (up to 80 years old) are used to make the cuvée Nouvelère. The domaine’s Crozes Hermitage white wine comes from the Marsanne grape. The family also produces limited quantities of Hermitage white wines, made from 100% Roussanne grapes; in Cornas, a small amount of red wine is produced. Domaine la Lôyane - Lirac
- Lirac rouge 2020
- Lirac blanc 2021
Winery description Domaine La Loyane is a name you will start to hear regularly in discussions of noteworthy wine from the Southern Rhone. Romain Dubois started his winemaking career on the property at the age of fifteen under the advisement of his father, from whom he has inherited 75 acres of mostly old vine parcels in Lirac and Tavel. When you look at Romain it is hard to believe that he just completed his twentieth vintage – This is someone with experience and knowledge of the region’s terroir that belies his young age. Laure Dubois, Romain’s charismatic and engaging wife, worked as a chef in nearby Chateauneuf-du-Pape prior to the birth of their two children, and she is now responsible for all of the vineyard work at the Domaine. Farming is organic, and most fermentation and aging takes place in steel tank. A portion of each wine is raised in their collection of ten used 600 liter demi muid French oak barrels.
