Wed, Jun 26

|

VC King

The Henri Magnien wines stand out for their use of a distinctive Pinot Noir clone. Referred to affectionately as 'Pinot Noir Magnien,' this clone is notably old and exclusive to their Domaine. It yields an exceptionally intense Pinot expression, characterized by a distinct spicy note.

About the Event

About Henri Magnien

Domaine Henri Magnien has grown into one of the most prestigious properties in Gevrey-Chambertin, and if you aspire to drink the best, it’s a domaine you need to know. His wines are bulletproof investment opportunities for your collection, a one-stop master's degree in elite Côte de Nuits terroir, and most importantly, are devastatingly delicious. The domaine owns some prime sites in the north west of Gevrey, in an area called the Cote St Jacques, including holdings in Lavaux, Champeaux and also a great strip running the length of Cazetiers, known as the “Le Petit Chambertin” because it has the same combination of soil types.

Charles Magnien, a 12th generation winemaker, is one of the most thoughtful and energetic producers I have met; each year I visit the estate he greets us grinning ear to ear, waiting to show us the new improvements he has made. Blessed with old vines, he is able to do very little to the grapes, and extracts very gently to make powerful hedonistic wines with incredibly elegant tannins and vibrant freshness. His wines are soul touching to say the least, and importantly will show well throughout their long lives.
