When it comes to indigenous Italian grapes, the grape that reigns above all others is Nebbiolo. In fact, some of the earliest mentions of the grape in historical texts refer to it as “re dei vini e vino dei re” meaning “the king of grapes and the grape of kings.” The region of Piedmont is not only this illustrious grape’s ancestral home, but hallowed ground for the world’s top expressions of Nebbiolo with Barolo and Barbaresco being the key “cru” appellations for the variety.

It is said that Nebbiolo can be a mirror for terroir, as Pinot Noir and Riesling can, and this is your invitation to a rare opportunity to taste side-by-side 5 distinct, benchmark expressions of the grape from Barbaresco and Gattinara in the Alto Piemonte from two iconic families in their respective regions, the Sottimano family in Barbaresco and the Antoniolo family in Gattinara.
