About the Event
The San Filippo Estate was one of the original 20 growers that started bottling Brunello in the late 1970s, but it was only until 2003 that the estate's greatness came to be, when owner Roberto Giannelli turned the winery into a state of the art facility with modern equipment and technology. He reduced vineyard yields, turned to organic farming practices and minimized the use of new oak to allow the aromatic personality of the Sangiovese Grosso to shine through and the character of the terroir to be evident.
The property lies in the heart of the most beautiful part of the Tuscan countryside; it is located in Northern Montalcino, neigboring the famous Biondi Santi Estate. The magnificent vineyards dominate the landscape which are adorned with the Val d’Orcia yellow cornfields, which have been declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco.
Winemaker Thomas Bianciardi was born in Champagne and raised in Tuscany. He has worked in vineyards all over the world including Chateau Boutisse in Saint Emilion, Palliser Estate in Martinborough, New Zealand, and Chateau Palmer, Chateau Le Gay and Chateau La Violette in Bordeaux.
