Nobody in Australia has consistently been making world-class wines from both chardonnay and pinot noir for longer than Gary Farr. Repeated visits to Burgundy and a close friendship with the Seysses family of Domaine Dujac inspired Gary to plant Australia’s first high-density vineyard in 1984, the Serré Vineyard at Bannockburn. In 1994, Gary set out on his own, establishing Wine By Farr in the Moorabool Valley in Victoria’s Geelong wine region. Today, father-son duo, Gary and Nick Farr, prioritize low-intervention practices and Burgundian methods, crafting wines that reflect the terroir's essence through close planting, selective clones, and minimal intervention.

By Farr’s “Tout Pres” Pinot Noir was featured in the film Somm 3, selected by Master Sommelier Dustin Wilson to fool other Master Sommeliers in a blind tasting of top Burgundies. The Halliday Wine Companion and The Real Review, Australia’s two most influential wine reviewers both place By Farr as one of the top 5 wineries in Australia, ahead of Penfolds and Henschke. Two By Farr wines grace the Langton’s Classification of Australia’s top “Grand Cru” wines.
